Welcome to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office web site. This site is designed to help you by providing important information about what you should know if you are faced with the loss of a loved one. Once a deceased person is in our jurisdiction, we provide family with information such as how to obtain a death certificate and other relevant information to help them during a very difficult time.
The primary function of our investigators and pathologists is to determine the cause and manner of death through careful examination of the deceased and other significant evidence.
We are also active in the communities we serve. The Coroner’s Office provides programs to young people about the hazards of drinking and other irresponsible behaviors that could result in serious injury or death. Our Office participates in child and elderly death review committees that are conducted by multi-disciplinary teams that routinely and systematically examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths in a given geographical area and given age group. We work with these committees to make recommendations for changes that may reduce the risk of unexpected or unnatural death. For more on our outreach and community work, go to “In the Community.”
On our web site you will also find information and sketches of unidentified deceased individuals found in Sacramento County. If you believe you have information about the identity of an individual listed, please contact our office.
It is the commitment of the Coroner’s Office to serve the citizens of Sacramento County through the performance of its mandated function pertaining to deaths occurring in the County. This duty is carried out with respect for the deceased and compassion for the families as they deal with the processes involved in bringing closure to their loss.
